Family Connections of Wisconsin |
The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County provides young people with the tools they need to succeed in life. In order to accomplish this goal, they offer a variety of programs in the following five core areas; Character and Leadership, Education and Career, Health and Life Skills, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Cultural Enrichment and S.T.A.R. (Save To Achieve Results). Their purpose is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Two locations in Dane County serve its 1200 members and their families by offering classes and activities for youth ages 7 - 18. Family Connections of Wisconsin, Inc. is a non-profit agency based in Madison whose mission is to provide opportunities to maintain and strengthen family relationships affected by incarceration. Their goals include: preventing the vulnerable child from following into a life of criminal activity by providing assistance to guarantee future success, assisting the mother to work towards her earliest release without recidivism, working with the mother and child to build their reading and literacy skills and improving their opportunities in the community after the mothers' release.
Their new program, Reading Connections, will allow mothers who do not see their children on a regular basis, or not at all, to tape record themselves reading a book for their children. |
The book, their tape, and a personal message, written and verbal is sent to their child sustaining the relationship while they are apart. Also, one day each month children from Dane County are transported to see their incarcerated mothers at Taycheedah Correctional Institution and Burke |
|
"Who's New" will gather donations for Boys and Girls Club and Family Connections of Wisconsin from personal contributions
and sponsoring two fund raisers; a Holiday Bazaar in December
and our annual Silent Auction in May. Also, each month an item will be selected to donate to their "wish list" at the monthly luncheons. Thank you in advance for supporting these local organizations.
